$20 Saint Gaudens Pre-1933 Double Eagle Gold bullion coin. The backstory to this coin's design is very intriguing. President Theodore Roosevelt was inspired by an exhibition of ancient Greek coins at the Smithsonian. He felt as though American coins lacked style and beauty compared to the Grecian coins. In 1907, President Roosevelt chose famous American sculptor Augustus Saint Gaudens for the job. Saint Gaudens would pass shortly thereafter finishing the design.
