About American Gold Eagle 1/10 oz Coins
The Coinage Act of 1792 established the use of gold coins as legal money. But in 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued an executive order that saw them taken out of distribution. Nixon's administration in 1972 reversed this edict, which forbade the individual ownership of gold bullion. Once more, Americans could invest in their futures and grow their portfolios. President Ronald Reagan issued the first 1/10 oz American Gold Eagles in 1986 following the enactment of the Gold Bullion Act of 1985. This law allowed the US Mint to create American Gold Eagles, but only using gold that was extracted domestically. In 1992, the U.S. Mint moved from using Roman numerals to traditional Arabic numerals to date the coins. Along with a range of sizes, American Eagle coins are available in gold, silver, platinum, or palladium. The Federal Government guarantees the weight and quality of every Gold Eagle.
Iconic Design
The American Gold Eagle's obverse features a picture of the robed Lady Liberty approaching while holding an olive branch and torch. Stars decorate the outer edge of the distant image, which shows the US Capitol in the far left corner. This design is an interpretation of Augustus Saint-Gaudens's famous and recognizable 1907 artwork. The $20 Saint-Gaudens gold coin, which Theodore Roosevelt ordered to be created to resemble ancient Greek and Roman money, is the source of the image. In addition, the year and the word "Liberty" are etched. Sculptor Miley Busiek created the reverse image in 1986, showing a mother eagle watching over her hatchlings in her nest. A male eagle soars overhead, guarding an olive branch in its beak. Having created a medallion for President Ronald Reagan's inauguration earlier, Busiek was motivated by a speech Reagan delivered at the 1980 Republican National Convention, emphasizing the importance of coming together for the common good. Busiek chose to represent a family as a symbol of strength, solidarity, and security rather than just one eagle, as was customary. The words "United States of America," "E Pluribus Unum," "In God We Trust," and "1/10 oz." are inscribed on the reverse. Five dollars for fine gold. The reeded edge measures.650 inches in diameter.
Composition
A 22-karat gold alloy is used in the production of every American Gold Eagle. Often called "crown gold," King Henry VIII developed this custom in the middle of the sixteenth century. This currency is composed primarily of copper alloys and tiny amounts of silver, with 91.67 percent pure gold. Weight, or the exact weight of gold expressed in troy ounces, is a precise marking on each coin.
Packaging
Each American Gold Eagle will come in a plastic flip that provides protection. Options for purchasing in bulk include 50-coin mint tubes or 5000-coin Monster Boxes, which may accommodate 100 tubes in total. This listing includes only American Gold Eagles that are in BU condition.
