US 90% Silver Coinage - Pre 1965 - Junk Silver - Roosevelt Dime Design
These coins have a picture of President Franklin D. Roosevelt on the obverse. The president is shown in this design by John R. Sinnock, facing left in profile. Soon after his death in 1945, this design was chosen for the dime in his honor. There is some debate around this coin. Some others asserted that Joseph Stalin, not the artist, was represented by the JS initials at the base. The claim that it was modeled after a bust created by African American artist Selma Burke is another point of contention. Sinnock refuted this, saying that he was inspired by one of his earlier ideas. "LIBERTY" is inscribed above Roosevelt's portrait. "IN GOD WE TRUST" is written on the coin's lower left side.
A torch with an olive and an oak sprig on either side is displayed on the back. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is written over the picture. "ONE DIME" appears beneath the image. The phrase "E Pluribus Unum" appears in the image's background. By adding some Silver Roosevelt dimes to your collection, you can own a piece of US history along with some fine silver.
